Wherever there is competition, people strive for improvement. That’s the basis of capitalism, and the reason why companies in the West are usually more efficient than their subsidized and nationalized counterparts in the east, or in the ancient Soviet Union. The free market constitutes a competition all by itself, but why not add some more of this spicy element of life? Apparently, this is what ILSI (Israel Life Science Industry), MATIMOP (Israel Industry Center for R&D) and the Office of the Chief Scientist had in mind when they declared a new competition that will enable Israeli companies to show their wares in the Bio International Convention in Chicago.

The convention will take place on the 3-6 of May 2010, and the twenty Israeli companies that will win this competition will be able to exhibit in the national booth, among other prizes all related to the convention, such as free entrance for eight of the winning companies.

In general, and as shown on the site of MATIMOP, the companies eligible to compete should follow some key criteria, such as:

A)  Company in human clinical trials that is ready to present results, either in Bio-Pharma or Medical Device sectors to potential collaborators (Large and medium Bio Pharma)
B) If not belonging to Group A, it should have some clinical proof-of-concept
a. A company with a molecule offering a new mechanism of action
b. A company with an important orphan drug application
c. A company with a new biomarker
d. A company with enabling new drug delivery technology
e. A company with a device offering new clinical approach
f. A company with a technology addressing unmet healthcare needs.
C) Company in the field of Industrial Biotechnology with a product ready for Beta stage.
D) Company developing novel AgBio based products that have advanced to proof-of-concept in crops

So, if you want to take part in this fun (and maybe fruitful) competition, you can find more details in MATIMOP’s site. Best make haste, because the registration ends by February 15 !
